Yoga Therapy for Depression in Arlington, MA

Depression makes movement feel impossible at exactly the moment it would help most — so yoga therapy starts from where you actually are, not from where a class assumes you should be.

Alongside Your Other Care

This work complements therapy and medical treatment and does not replace them. If you're already working with a therapist or a physician, yoga therapy sits comfortably beside that care.

Starting Small

Sessions begin with what's achievable on a hard day: breath, a few minutes of gentle movement, sometimes simply lying down and being guided. Rather than demanding energy you don't have, the practice builds it gradually, and the bar for showing up stays low on purpose.

What the Work Involves

Breath practices that lift rather than sedate, movement that restores a sense of agency in your own body, and restorative postures for the exhaustion that so often comes with depression. We also work on sleep and daily rhythm, which depression disrupts and which in turn feed it.

Meditation and Yoga Nidra

Sessions also draw on meditation and yoga nidra. I'll explain how yoga nidra works on the nervous system and point you to selected recordings you can use at home between sessions.
